Journey continues...IIM Kozhikode...

If you never loved nor admired the nature anytime, a visit to Kerala is going to change your notions. My life journey now takes me to IIM K, one of the prestigious MBA institutions of the world. A few months back just after a rigorous process of CAT and the GD/PI process, i was in a dilemma whether to go for L or K. The next few days were occupied with consulting people, taking advices and weighing options. Both L and K had good opportunities with respect to career life and my personal factors tilted the decision in favor of K. Now this part of my life is called "Learning".

With K firmly decided, i was pumped up to visit Kerala. As there was no direct train to Kozhikode from Secunderabad, i had to make a stop over at Chennai. Chennai was my city till then for 2 years, so coming to Chennai reminded me of all the people who were a part of my being in IIM K. The way from station to IIMK gate had nothing extra-ordinary with Kozhikode being a tier II city.

The campus was 2 Kms up the hill from the IIMK gate and the fun started from this moment. My life entered into a new domain, ohh god!! I’m so happy to be a student again. Having the campus on a hill, K truly holds the distinction of being the best IIM campus. We reached Kozhikode on 22Jun and thanks to the IIMK bus, not only we reached the campus without any surprises but also i could meet share some time with my future friends.

Once done with the usual registration process, i was allocated hostel room. I was one among the first batch of K2 hostel students. Opening the back door of my room one can have the splendid view of the nature at its best. My hostel was situated on top of a hill with the valley right in front of us. The first day passed with sprucing up the hostel room, making new friends.

By that time everyone was discussing about the tiresome assignments given by the seniors. The next day we had an inspiring speech from our Director and the next few days we had industry experts visiting our campus; giving presentations, and we had invaluable inputs from their experiences on post MBA.Going forward assignments, quizzes, case studies greeted us day n night with the average sleeping time limited to 4hrs per day.

Chalo.. ..i just want to leave all this academic stuff and want to free my mind and express all the musings about this place over the last few weeks. IIMK life is not only about work, case studies, the fun element is omnipresent in the God’s own campus. Photography is the best job profile in this campus. The campus in the aerial view gives the best shot of the wonderful lush green campus. Well some of these pictures should acknowledge my views.
In the second week, we directly headed into Roobaroo, our inter sectional competitions in cultural activities. The best brains compete vigorously in cultural activities like essay, extempore, debates, skit, dances, and singing. As I missed the only chance (essay writing) to participate, I was there in the costume design group of our class. We decided to have a mascot for our class and we named it as “Dragon Knight” keeping in mind our Section D. Murali was the mascot and he made us proud with his attitude. One of the highlights was the dance by Thiru, with his huge body trying to match with the fast beat song.

All through the contest till mid-night, my mouth never shut up, as I was up to a lot of sledging and loud vocal support for my section. Mid-night came and freshers' party began with wine, whiskey, rum, vodka, masala food and dance. Well one of my best night’s (!!) in the K campus, with the full body in swing with the high decibel music. Girls with (hmmm….kya mast hain)..made our already high adrenalin levels to up a notch.

After having two rounds of Smirnoff ( I rarely drink), I was upto the one of the best speeches in my life. With my senses still working fine, Sharath, Koti and I were having discussions regarding the happenings in the college in the past few weeks.

Then I directly went to the amphitheater (pic on the left) and gave the best speech of my life….even now I get surprised how I could deliver such an inspiring speech (..for me..) that night. I understood by experimentation that a little of vodka makes you bold enough to be open.

Three weeks spent in the campus looks like 3 days..hmm....there's no better place than IIMK for a student couple, thanks to the natural beauty present over here. The evening walks in the serene atmosphere, the lush green campus, tends you to go a step forward which makes me feel i ought to be here with my better half. Are all these thoughts inspired by the "progressive" classes of STI ??

Well that was the topic on which we had lengthy and intriguing discussions, we had yesterday night in the NC. Thiru, Rakesh had a thought provoking verbal duel about girls, marriage, sex, love and money. One thing which i admire is about the thought process which goes into debating any topic by the guys over here. Structured, out of the box ideas is the motto of life over here. I was emotionally disturbed a bit after hearing Thiru's love story and i feel love is permanent though relationship might be temporary.

Now i shall bid adieu for the time being and shall return with many more accumulating sweet memories. With lingering thoughts of my assignments, i need to cut this story in the middle and shall definitely resume once again in full throttle the next time.

Hi Rahul,

I had a talk about posting the pics with Deepak, some of his pics are posted.

It seems the pics are circulating without the owner's identification, so posted them as an IIMK student.

Incase you know the author, please let me know so that i shall post their names.
